An outside hitter from Lynden, Washington, Kara played at the University of Washington, where she was a two-time All-American. She set the UW single-season kills record with 597 and was named the 2018 AVCA Pacific North Region Player of the Year. Kara made her U.S. National Team debut at the 2022 Volleyball Nations League and has since made severalVNL and World Championship rosters. In five years as a professional, she won a CEV Champions League title with VakıfBank in 2022/23, earning MVP honors in the 2021/22 Polish Cup along the way.
